Today we received confirmation of the cancellation of the 2021 soccer season from Football Victoria. Whilst a return to playing always seemed unlikely given the ongoing restrictions, the club’s position was always that we wanted our young kids to be able to play and enjoy football; whenever it was safe to return; so we share in the disappointment, our younger members may be feeling now that the season has formally closed.
Included in the FV communication was the disappointing news that because of this cancellation of the season, Football Victoria would not be allowing promotion or relegation. This decision greatly impacts our Senior Men’s team who will be denied promotion into the NPL system despite being 10 points clear in the promotion places.
It has been an extremely tough year for all our MSC families with each of us suffering the effects of lockdown restrictions in many ways, including the financial impact and, the stresses placed on our mental health and physical wellbeing. The ‘Club’ itself is not immune from these same impacts, with a significant drop in sponsorship revenue and a much-reduced income from the bar and canteen; it continues to be a tough year to be administering a not-for-profit football club and we thank all our volunteers, coaches, team managers, supporters and everyone else who helps make this such a special club.
We await further communication from Football Victoria in relation to their refund policy and we will communicate more information to members in the coming days.
We will all return to enjoying football soon, and the committee’s task is now to turn our attention to season 2022 and to begin to put in place all the elements needed for another success-filled 2022 season across all our teams.
